United States capture Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has been captured by the United States at around 3 am UTC-4 on Saturday January 3, according to post by US president Donald Trump on social media. Trump justified this action by claiming that Maduro is the leader of the Cartel de los Soles and pushing illegal immigration of dangerous individuals in the United States. Local authorities in Venezuela have requested a United Nations Security Council meeting to be held after the attack.

Residents shelter in place for hours after gas leak outside of Los Angeles

A gas leak occurred in Castaic, California, in northern Los Angeles County, on Saturday, December 27. More than 14,000 people were required to shelter in place. Interstate 5, a nearby highway, was shut down for several hours. No casualties were reported.

On December 26, English rock band The Cure announced on social media that keyboardist-guitarist Perry Bamonte (who was also known by the nickname "Teddy") had died from an unspecified illness over Christmas. He had been with the band since 1990 when he replaced keyboardist Roger O'Donnell.

Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) returned to Bangladesh on December 25, 2025, landing in Dhaka after 17 years in self-imposed exile in London. His arrival followed the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.

Knife and chemical attack at a factory in Japan

On Friday, December 26, workers at a Yokohama Rubber Company tire manufacturing plant in Mishima, located in the Shizuoka prefecture which is west of Tokyo, were assaulted by a 38-year-old man using both a knife and what authorities believe was bleach. A 38-year-old man who was arrested at the scene. At least 15 people were injured in total, some with serious injuries requiring treatment in hospital.
