GM Chevy Volt almost maintenance free

Leigh and John with their Chevy VoltWe've driven our new Chevy Volt 12,000 kilometers and it has been flawless. What an amazing car to drive. Fast, fun, and comfortable. We are really enjoying it. Lots of people like the look of the car and many people ask how the electric car works. Most people mistakenly think the Volt is pure electric and therefore has range limitations. It is electric with a gasoline generator so that range is not an issue. We fill up on gas once a month or so, depending on how often we travel 60-80 kilometers which is how long the electric powered by batteries will go on a charge. When the batteries get down to 60% the gasoline generator kicks in automatically and keeps the batteries charged up. You fill up on gasoline just like any other car, only much less frequently depending on how far you drive. With a full charge and a full tank of gas you can go about 550 kilometers. Plus, when you run low on gas, you can stop in at the gas station and fill up, just like a normal car, so you can do any trip a conventional car can.

Today, thought it was time to find out about why nobody had reminded me to get the car serviced. Well, nice surprise. Oil likely doesn't need to be changed any more than every 2 years depending on how much we use the gasoline generator...which is quite seldom in general. They suggest getting the cars rotated every six months or 12,000 kilometers, as well as an inspection to make sure things all good. That is it! No more oil change every few months. Much less wear and tear related to air filters and other systems since the gasoline generator is used so seldom. We'll see how it works in reality. So far we are loving this low maintenance electric car thing.
