Solar Desk

Solar Desk II is the second generation of an on-going effort by John Wilson to create autonomous solar generators for the home and office. With version II of the solar desk it is now possible to operate your laptop computer for the next ten years, approximately, using a Solar Desk II generator. Solar Desk II has a unique, high efficiency, solar generation system. The solar generator combines two 40 watt solar panels with a high performance battery to give you the ultimate computer power supply. Using direct DC to DC voltage conversion the system avoids inefficiencies typically associated with solar generators that convert DC to AC and then back to DC for use by the laptop computer. 

The complete system includes:

1. 2 x 40 watt Siemens solar panel (used, ten years old)
2. solid state charge controller with LED lighting option
3. high performance AGM battery, sealed, no maintenance required
4. laptop computer power supply, supports most newer laptop computer models including Dell, Lenovo, HP, Toshiba and Apple
5. dual 12 volt outlet (one for the laptop computer power supply and one spare for occasional AC appliances using a pure sine wave inverter)
6. USB outlet for charging phones and other devices (including iPhone, iPad and iPods)
7. requires solar panel placement with direct unobstructed access to sunlight ideally with panel at titled to about 30 degrees and facing directly south
