Scotland is well on the way to being powered 100% by renewable energy. Increasingly wind power provides more than enough power for not just Scotland but muck of the UK. “The good news is that we don’t have to rely on a high-risk strategy based on unproven [carbon emissions capture and storage] technology. In fact, a renewables-based, efficient, flexible, electricity system is perfectly feasible by 2030,” states WWF Scotland. It looks like energy independence may come before political independence. Perhaps energy independence is more important.
"In Germany, Europe’s largest national economy and the fifth largest in the world, renewables supplied about 27 percent of the nation’s annual demand in 2014, up from about 25 percent in 2013 and below 20 percent four years ago." Other countries like Denmark are also committed and well on the way to becoming 100% powered by renewable energy. Even in the United Stated, California for instance, has commited to getting to 50% renewables by 2030. Now is the time when the race must move into second and third gear very quickly. Time is running out as the climate bomb of cascading tipping points approaches. In the game of human survival we must all work to win the race together.
